Are Google Local Services Ads Worth It for Roofers?
Local Services Ads for roofers are usually worth it, next to Google search ads, not instead of them.
How do Local Services Ads work for a roofer?
They're the listings at the very top of Google with a "Google Verified" badge, your star rating and a call button. You don't pay for clicks; you pay when a homeowner calls, messages or books you through the ad5. To get the badge, you pass Google's screening, which takes 3 to 4 weeks on average6.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can roofers use them in Canada? | Yes. "Roofers" is on Google's category list1 |
| What screening is needed? | Business and owner checks, general and professional liability insurance, and licences where local law requires them6 |
| How long does it take? | 3 to 4 weeks on average after you submit documents, so start early6 |
| Can I run before I'm verified? | Pre-badge ads can bring leads after the first checks, but they show below verified roofers1 |
| What badge do I get? | Google Verified. It replaced Google Guaranteed and Google Screened, and the money-back guarantee ended, in October 20257 |
| What about bad leads? | Google credits low-quality leads automatically, usually within 30 days, but not "job type not serviced" or "geo not serviced"8 |
| What's changing? | Canadian accounts move into Google Ads as Performance Max campaigns with pay-per-lead goals in 20279 |
Debut Marketing summary of Google's pages, read October 9 and 11, 2026.
The ranking isn't only about price. Google says how likely your ad is to bring a lead is a factor in the auction, and that regularly missing calls or messages can hurt your ranking110.
How much do Local Services Ads for roofers cost?
About $148 CAD a lead, the median of five published roofing figures, and rising: 99 Calls saw roofing leads go up 45% from spring 2025 to spring 2026211. That's about two and a half times the $59 contractor typical12. Treat it as rough, since four of the five figures are agency ranges.
| Source | Roofing figure (US$) | Midpoint (US$) | In CAD |
|---|---|---|---|
| AdGenius | $55 to $90 | $72.50 | $101 |
| PipelineOn | $50 to $130 | $90 | $126 |
| Web Pinnacles | $50 to $162 | $106 | $148 |
| 99 Calls (April to June 2026 average) | $106.87 | $106.87 | $149 |
| BookedFriday | $71 to $162 | $116.50 | $163 |
| Debut typical (median) | $148 |
| Channel | Typical roofing cost per lead (CAD) | Leads that book | Ad spend per booked job | You choose which jobs you pay for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google search ads | $2583 | 42 in 1003 | about $614 | By keyword, down to the job and town |
| Google Local Services Ads | $1482 | 44 in 10018 | about $337 | By job type and area only |
| Facebook lead ads | $6119 | Depends on follow-up | $290 to $610 (illustration) | By offer and area |
You control spend with a monthly budget and a bidding choice. "Maximize Leads" lets Google set the price, "Max Per Lead" is a hard cap, and Target Cost Per Lead aims for an average; Google never goes over your budget20. Message leads typically cost less than phone leads10.
When are Local Services Ads worth it for a roofer?
When you answer the phone, want repair and inspection calls, have strong reviews and track which leads book. Skip them, or wait, if you only want replacements or commercial work, nobody answers during the day, or you're new with only a handful of reviews.
| Worth it when | Skip or wait when |
|---|---|
| Someone answers every call in your listed hours4 | Calls go to voicemail during the day |
| You want repair and inspection calls, which often become replacements | You only want replacements or commercial work, since you can't bid by keyword |
| Your reviews are strong: the top 3 roofers on Maps had a median of 7721 | You have under 5 reviews; Google recommends 5 or more, and some businesses need 5 to show10 |
| You mark which leads booked | You can't track bookings |
| Your weekly budget can absorb a storm spike | Your area is storm-chased and leads can spike past normal prices for days13 |

How should a roofer set up Local Services Ads?
Start verification early, turn off every job type you don't do, keep the service area to towns you'll drive to, list only the hours someone answers, and start with "Maximize Leads". Then rate every lead, reply to every review and track which leads became roofs.
- Submit documents on day one. Screening takes 3 to 4 weeks on average6.
- Pick job types carefully. Google no longer credits leads for job types or areas you don't serve8.
- Set real hours. If calls go through a phone menu, Google starts the 20-second clock after the key press4. Turn on message leads for nights and weekends10.
- Ask for reviews and reply to them. Your rating and count sit right on the ad.
- Track bookings, not leads. Only 5% of Canadian roofing websites use call tracking, in our roofing website study22. Mark each lead as booked or not, and work out your cost per roof every month.
- Plan for 2027. When Canadian accounts move into Google Ads, budgets become daily averages and reports start fresh9. Download your lead history first.
Should roofers run Local Services Ads and search ads together?
Yes, for most roofers. Local Services Ads bring repair and inspection calls at about $148 a lead; search ads let you pay only for the jobs and towns you want, like "roof replacement Calgary", at about $25823. Together they take up more of the top of the page.
Our Google Ads guide for roofers covers search campaigns, and our guide to getting roofing leads compares every channel, including Facebook at about $61 a lead19 and your free Google profile. If you'd rather hand it off, see our Google Ads management or marketing for roofing companies.
