MARKETING FOR LOCAL EXCAVATION COMPANIES

Excavation work comes from two places: builders who need a reliable sub, and owners with a drainage problem, a new lot or a pool to dig. We build excavation companies the website and Google presence that bring in both.

  • Pages for site prep, drainage, trenching and clearing
  • Photos and video of your machines at work
  • Local SEO for the areas you haul to
  • A clear equipment list builders trust

The reality

Why excavation companies wait on builders for work

  1. No way for owners to find you

Homeowners with a drainage problem, a pool dig or a lot to clear search Google. Most excavators aren't there.

  2. Builders can't see your capacity

Equipment, crew size, insurance and the jobs you've done. Builders want to know you can handle it before they call.

  3. Every service in one line

"Excavation, drainage, trenching, site prep" in one sentence ranks for none of them.

  4. Machines idle in slow weeks

One source of work means gaps. A steady flow of homeowner jobs fills them.

How your customers search

What homeowners and builders actually search for

Homeowners almost never search for "excavation". They search for the problem: "yard drainage solutions", "basement leaking from outside", "dig out for pool", "clear lot for new house". The excavator with a page for each of those problems is the one they find.

Builders search by capacity and area: "excavation contractor [town]", "site prep contractor", "trenching services". They want to see equipment, crew, insurance and past jobs before they pick up the phone.

Two audiences, two kinds of page. Give homeowners answers and builders proof, and your machines stay busy between the big contracts.

Timing

An excavator's year

  1. January to March

    Drainage season

Wet yards and flooded basements send owners searching. Drainage pages and ads earn their keep now.

  2. April to June

    Site prep ramps up

Builders start projects and owners plan pools and landscaping.

  3. July to September

    Dry-season digging

Peak months. Book fall work and shoot your crews.

  4. October to December

    Before the rain

Drainage and grading before winter, and next year's builder contracts.

Where to start

Most excavation companies start with the Foundation Package

Builders and owners check you out online before they call; your website and Google profile do that work. It's a website, brand, business cards and Google Business Profile for $3,500, by application.

Excavation marketing questions

Can't see your question? Send it with the form below or call 604-626-3100. We reply within 24 hours.

Keep your machines moving
Do homeowners really search for excavators?

Yes, usually for drainage, pool digs, driveways, lot clearing and suites. They search the job ("drainage contractor [town]") more than the word "excavation".

How do I get more builder work?

Make it easy to see your capacity: equipment list, crew, insurance, safety record and past projects on your website, plus reviews from builders.

Are drone photos worth it?

For site prep and large jobs, yes. They show scale in one frame. See drone photo and video.

Should I run Google Ads?

For homeowner drainage and site prep work, often yes. Builder work comes more from SEO, reviews and relationships.

Do you work with demolition and concrete companies?

Yes. Excavation sits between demolition and concrete on most builds, and all three sell to the same builders. See every trade we work with.
