The reality

Why arborists lose jobs to guys with a chainsaw and a truck

  1. Certification buried or missing

Certified arborists, insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage are exactly what homeowners should look for. If your site doesn't say it clearly, you look like everyone else.

  2. Permits confuse people

Many municipalities require a permit to remove larger trees. Explaining it, and offering to handle it, wins the job.

  3. Nobody answers during a storm

A tree on the fence at 7 pm is an emergency. The company that replies first gets it, and often the cleanup and the stump.

  4. No photos of the work

A climber in a harness above a roofline says "we know what we're doing" better than any paragraph.

How your customers search

What homeowners search when a tree becomes a problem

Tree searches split into two moods. Urgent: "tree fell on fence", "emergency tree removal [town]", "tree leaning over house". Planned: "tree removal cost", "do I need a permit to cut down a tree in [city]", "hedge trimming [town]". Each mood needs a different page and a different offer.

The permit question is one of the most searched and least answered. Explain the basics for the municipalities you work in, link to each city's own page, and say you'll handle the application. It's the kind of help that wins the job.

Certification matters to the customers you want. Mention it on every page, with your insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage.

Timing

An arborist's year on the coast

  1. November to February

    Storm season

Wind and saturated ground bring trees down. Emergency ads and fast replies matter most.

  2. March to May

    Planned work

Pruning, assessments and removals homeowners put off over winter.

  3. June to August

    Summer and nesting

Bird nesting season limits some work. A good time for assessments and fall bookings.

  4. September to October

    Storm prep

Hazard assessments and removals before the first big wind.

Where to start

Most arborists start with the Scaling Package

Tree work is urgent and local, so it lives on ads and fast replies. It's Google and Facebook ads, landing pages and instant replies, from $1,000 a month in management.

Get more tree work
Should I mention tree permits on my website?

Yes. Many BC municipalities require permits for larger trees, and homeowners don't know the rules. Explain the basics, link to the city's own page, and offer to handle it.

How do I win against cheaper tree cutters?

Show certification, insurance, WorkSafeBC coverage and photos of safe, professional work. The customers you want care about all four.

When should arborists advertise?

Keep storm ads ready from November to February, and push planned removals and assessments in spring and early fall.

Do reviews matter for tree services?

A lot. Tree work is risky, so people read reviews closely. Ask after every job.

Do you work with landscapers and junk removal companies?

Yes. Tree work often comes before a landscaping project, and the cleanup overlaps with junk removal. We market all three. See every trade we work with.
