Construction photography and video · Vancouver and across BC

CONSTRUCTION PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO

92% of construction websites already show project photos. Owners compare builders on whose work it is, how well it's shot and whether the page loads on a phone. Our construction photography and video covers your builds from the empty lot to handover, your crews at work and the view from a drone, planned around your website, ads and bids.

  • Progress shoots at foundation, framing, lock-up and handover
  • Your crews at work, on your sites, in your gear
  • Short video ads and drone footage for Facebook and Instagram
  • Photos sized for the web, so your project pages still load fast

The reality

How weak photos cost construction companies projects

  1. Someone else's build

A stock photo of a finished home tells an owner nothing about your work. Owners hiring a builder want to see houses you built, in towns they know.

  2. The finished house and nothing else

Owners spending six or seven figures want to see how you run a site: straight framing, a tidy lot and a crew in gear. A gallery of handovers skips the part they worry about most.

  3. Photos that slow the page

The median construction home page took 8.4 seconds to show its main content on a phone, in our study of 133 Canadian construction companies. Google calls 2.5 seconds good. Full-size photos straight off a camera are a common reason.

  4. No video for your ads

Facebook and Instagram run on short video. Without footage of your own builds, your ads fall back on stock clips or a still photo.

By the numbers

What do construction websites show today?

Nearly all of them show photos. Fewer link to a projects page, and most are slow on a phone, usually because of the photos. Here is where construction websites stand and what to aim for.

Construction websitesWhat to aim for
Show project photos or a gallery 92% 6 to 12 photos of your own jobs on the home page
Link to a projects, portfolio or gallery page 88% (97% of the top quarter, 79% of the bottom) A page for each project, with the town, scope and timeline
Show reviews or testimonials on the home page 57% Three real reviews beside your project photos
Median home page weight 3.2 MB Each photo saved as WebP and kept under 200 KB
Median time to show the main content on a phone 8.4 seconds 2.5 seconds or less, Google's mark for good
Sites with images missing alt text 10% Alt text that says what each photo shows

Through the build

What we shoot at each stage of a build

  1. Before ground breaks

    The lot and the street

Drone and ground shots of the empty lot and the street, so the finished photos have a true before.

  2. Foundation and framing

    The work owners never see

Crews forming, pouring and framing. These shots show how you run a site, and they make the best short videos.

  3. Lock-up and finishing

    Progress from the same spots

We shoot from the same angles each visit, so the progress photos and the time-lapse line up. Monthly drone plans fly the same path every time.

  4. Handover

    The finished build

Exterior, interior and twilight shots of the finished project, plus a walkthrough video for your website, your Google profile and next year's bids.

Book the first visit before the build starts. Once the framing is up, the empty lot is gone.

Drone photo and video

Show the whole site from above

A drone shows what ground photos can't: the size of the lot, the roof, the build in its neighbourhood and the progress across a site with more than one building. Drone footage comes with the Ad Creative shoot where the site and the airspace allow it, and you can book a drone shoot on its own from $800.

For drones between 250 g and 25 kg, Transport Canada requires a drone pilot certificate and a registered drone. Flights near airports and heliports, which covers much of the Lower Mainland and Victoria, need an advanced certificate and permission from NAV CANADA. We check the airspace and arrange any permissions before the shoot. Our construction drone guide covers the rules and the uses in full.

  • 10+ edited photos, a highlight video and the raw footage
  • We check the airspace and arrange any permissions
  • Single shoots, or monthly plans from $1,799 for active sites

Plan a shoot
How much does construction photography cost?

The Media Refresh shoot is $1,400 one time: 50 edited photos and one highlight video for your website, Google profile and social media. The Ad Creative shoot is $1,500: 4 short videos with different hooks, drone footage and 10 edited photos made for Meta ads. Drone shoots on their own start at $800, and monthly drone plans for active sites start at $1,799.

Do you shoot active construction sites?

Yes. Crews at work are some of the most useful footage we get. We work around your schedule and your site safety rules.

When should we book progress photos?

Before the build starts, so you have the empty lot. Then at the stages you want to show, usually foundation, framing, lock-up and handover. Shooting from the same spots each visit makes the progress photos and the time-lapse line up.

Do you need a licence to fly a drone over a construction site?

Yes. For drones between 250 g and 25 kg, Transport Canada requires a drone pilot certificate and a registered drone, and flights near airports and heliports need an advanced certificate and permission from NAV CANADA. Hiring a certified operator means that paperwork is handled for you. See drone photo and video for the details.

How should photos go on a construction website?

Resize them to the size they're shown at, save them as WebP and keep each one under 200 KB. Put 6 to 12 photos of your own jobs on the home page, and give each project its own page with the town, scope and timeline. The median construction home page in our study weighed 3.2 MB. Our construction website design page covers the rest.

Do your Facebook ads plans include a shoot?

When you need one, yes. If you don't have video of your builds yet, we start your ads with the Ad Creative shoot, so they run on real footage of your sites. See construction Facebook ads.

Who owns the photos and video?

You get the finished photos and edits to use on your website, social media and ads.
