CONSTRUCTION GOOGLE ADS MANAGEMENT

A construction lead from Google search costs about $224, and most builders can't tell which of those leads signed. We run Google Ads for construction companies by project type, with custom homes, multiplexes, additions and commercial work kept apart, and we judge the account on signed projects.

  • A campaign for each kind of project you build
  • Job seekers and DIY searches blocked from day one
  • A landing page that asks about the lot, the budget and the start date
  • Signed contracts sent back to Google, so it learns what pays

The reality

Where construction ad budgets go before anyone asks for a quote

  1. People looking for work

A search for "construction company" can come from an owner, a developer, a subtrade or someone who wants a job. In our study of 133 Canadian construction companies, 41% of home pages linked to a careers page. Without a blocked list, you pay for every applicant.

  2. An addition and a custom home in one campaign

Different buyers, different budgets, different timelines. Put them together and the cheaper, busier searches spend the budget first.

  3. No idea which clicks signed

In the same study, 22% of construction websites had a Google Ads tag and 6% used call tracking. Only 2% had both. Everyone else is guessing which ads bring the calls.

  4. A slow page at the end of the click

86% of construction websites take more than 4 seconds to show their main content on a phone, and 29% show a phone number before you scroll. An owner on a phone at lunch won't wait for either.

We fix all four before your budget goes live.

By the numbers

What does a construction lead cost on Google Ads?

A construction lead from Google search typically costs about $224 CAD, the median of the published figures for general contracting and remodeling. If 42 in 100 leads book, that's about $540 in ad spend per booked job. Big projects sign less often, so this table assumes only 1 in 10 signs.

Example sizeHard cost to build (CAD)$2,240 in ad spend as a share
Custom home, Vancouver 3,000 sq ft $1.47M to $3.75M 0.15% or less
Single-family home, Vancouver 2,500 sq ft $500,000 to $787,500 0.45% or less
Fourplex, stacked townhouse style 4,400 sq ft $924,000 to $1.32M 0.24% or less
Office fit-out, Class B 3,000 sq ft $270,000 to $525,000 0.83% or less

Build costs: Altus Group 2026 Canadian Cost Guide, Vancouver hard costs per square foot (as at January 31, 2026) times the example size, before land, design, permits and taxes, with $224 a lead and 1 in 10 signing. The lead price rarely sinks a construction account: an estimator's week spent on people with no lot, no budget or no start date does. See the full construction Google Ads guide.

What we set up and run

How we run Google Ads for a construction company

  1. A Google Ads dashboard on a laptop
    Google Ads

    Campaigns by project type

Custom homes, multiplexes and laneway homes, additions and commercial work each get their own budget and keywords. Ads run during the hours someone answers, with a call button on every ad.

  2. The T City Developments website on a laptop
    Construction Website Design

A page that screens the lead

Each campaign lands on a page about that kind of project, with your builds, your licence and your warranty. The form asks about the lot, the budget range and the start date.

Signed contracts sent back to Google

Every call and form is tagged with the search behind it, and tracking is tested before the first dollar is spent. When a lead signs, we send that back to Google so bidding learns which searches turn into contracts.

Also in the plan

  • SEO for construction companies Paid clicks end the day the budget runs out. A spot on Google Maps for the projects you build keeps owners calling between campaigns. Construction SEO
  • Facebook ads for construction companies Build videos and lot-check offers reach owners months before they search. Construction Facebook Ads
  • Replies inside a minute A new form lead hears back by text within seconds, with a link to book a site meeting, so an owner comparing three builders hears from you first.

Different trade, same playbook · Beyond The Brush Painters · Residential painting, Vancouver

The same setup, run for a painting company

  • 8jobs booked from Google Ads
  • 20days from website launch
  • 7Xreturn on ad spend

Each service had its own page, and each ad pointed to the page that matched the search. That booked 6 interior jobs, 1 exterior job and 1 cabinet job in the 20 days after launch. A construction lead costs more than a painting lead, $224 against $193, and a signed project is worth far more, so matching the ad to the page matters more for a builder, not less.

I'm very happy with service from Debut Marketing. Evan is very professional, responsive, and has been great helping grow my painting business online. I really appreciate their communication and the effort they put into our marketing. Highly recommend!

Through the year

How a construction ad budget moves through the year

  1. October to January

    Planning season

Owners who want to break ground in spring are choosing a builder now. Custom home and multiplex campaigns take the biggest share, with a lot check or design meeting as the offer.

  2. February to April

    Quotes pick up

Addition and renovation searches grow as the rain eases. Budget shifts toward them, and custom home campaigns stay on for late planners.

  3. May to August

    Crews are booked

Small-project campaigns get cut back once the schedule is full. Brand searches and next year's custom homes stay on, smaller.

  4. September

    Line up next spring

A short push for projects that start after winter. Owners who missed this year's start date are the easiest meetings to book.

Most BC cities now allow 3 to 4 homes on lots zoned for a single house or duplex, and 6 on larger lots near frequent transit. We keep a lot-check ad group for each town you build in and update it when that town's rules change.

Pricing

Google Ads pricing for construction companies

Your ad budget is paid straight to Google on your own card. At $224 a lead, $1,500 a month buys about 7 leads, too few to split across four project types. Start with the one you most want more of: we'd rather run one project type at $2,000 to $3,000 a month than spread $5,000 across four.

Is this for you?

Google Ads pay off for builders who call back the same day

You're a good fit if

  • You build projects worth six figures or more for owners who search
  • You can name the project types and towns you want
  • Someone calls new leads back the same day
  • You can give the account 90 days and $2,000 a month in ad spend

We're not a fit if

  • You win most work through tenders and invitations to bid
  • You want small repair jobs to fill the gaps between builds

Construction Google Ads questions

Get a Google Ads plan
How much should a construction company spend on Google Ads?

Plan on $2,000 to $3,000 a month in ad spend for one project type in one market, plus management. At about $224 a lead, $3,000 buys about 13 leads. If 1 in 10 signs, that's roughly one project a month, so judge the account over a quarter, not a week.

Can construction companies use Local Services Ads in Canada?

No. Google's Canadian help page lists 16 Local Services Ads categories, and none cover builders or general contractors (checked October 11, 2026). Google's sales page shows a longer list that includes "General contractor", so we check again at sign-up, as covered in Local Services Ads in Canada.

How do you stop job seekers from clicking?

We block searches with jobs, careers, hiring, wage, salary, apprenticeship and course in them before launch. Then we read the search terms report every week and add to the list. If your site has a careers page, every campaign points at a project page instead.

Do Google Ads work for commercial construction?

Sometimes. A business owner planning an office fit-out or a small building does search, but developers and public owners mostly hire through bids and relationships. We only run a commercial campaign if the page it lands on shows your commercial projects.

Who owns the Google Ads account?

Your company does. It's opened under your business, so the keywords, the ads and every signed-contract record stay yours if you ever move on.

How long until Google Ads brings construction leads?

Leads usually start in the first few weeks. Signed projects take longer, because owners compare builders for weeks before they call and longer before they sign. Judge cost per signed project at 90 days.
